Group Leader and Research Fellow: Translational Biomarkers for Neurodegenerative Diseases (m/f)

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the discovery biology organization with a focus on translational strategies for all discovery programs (focus on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson disease). In addition to the translational efforts, the biology organization includes the local biology areas of tau and synuclein biology, neuro-inflammation and proteostasis
  • Serve as point of contact for all aspects of translational biomarker and imaging strategy providing scientific expertise and leadership to programs
  • Besides discovery partner with clinical groups to create and enable high quality biomarker strategies in the clinic
  • Implement standardized and cutting edge tools to characterize drug mechanisms, consider diagnostic strategies, and inform back translation research
  • Drives advancement of new product by timely contribution of robust translational readouts 
  • Leadership of biomarker subteams to enable cross functional collaboration on biomarker implementation (Biology Area teams, DMPK, clinical translational team, translational imaging team etc.)
  • Author biomarker sections of protocols, IBs etc.
  • Pro-actively consult primary scientific literature, keep current on state of art technologies and emerging concepts in neurology
  • Maintains an external reputation as multidiscipline expert and leads as invited panelist to senior industry meetings or by authoring and reviewing high-impact articles for peer-reviewed, top-tier publications

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD, MD/PhD with 12 years of related work experience (after PhD) and scientific excellence
  • Proven track record of effective people management in larger organizations

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong scientific background in Alzheimer’s and Parkinsons disease pathology supported by publication record in these areas
  • Demonstrated leadership in translational sciences, employing pharmacodynamic, predictive and exploratory biomarkers
  • Experience in analysis of large datasets and knowledge of biostatistics
  • Experience in assay development, qualification and implementing biomarker assays on diverse platforms including ELISA, IHC/IF, gene expression profiling, flow cytometry, PET tracers
  • Awareness about the concept of companion diagnostics development experience is a plus preclinical development experience interacting with teams conducting clinical trials is a plus
  • Effectively work in a cross-functional team environment, interacting with various levels within the organization as well as vendors/academic sites/KOLs
  • Organization, orientation to details, and effective time management with an ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills in the English language
