The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing invites applications for a Max Planck Research Group Leader (W2) (m/f/d) | Biology of Ageing (job code 12-2021).

The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing was founded in 2008 with the mission to unravel fundamental mechanisms of healthy ageing. It is part of a broad network of institutions in the Cologne-Bonn area dedicated to research on ageing and age-related disease, constituting a vibrant and collaborative environment. Equipped with state-of-the-art core facilities, the institute provides outstanding opportunities for its scientists. At the moment, we host employees from 40 different nations and 305 employees including guest scientists.

We seek a talented, dynamic, independent, and motivated scientist early in his/her career to establish a Max Planck Research Group at our Max Planck Institute in Cologne. The successful candidate will develop an independent research programme using his/her own budget, which will fund research positions, consumables, and equipment. Candidates should have an outstanding scientific track record with clear evidence of leadership, and perform cutting-edge research in one or more aspects of the biology of ageing in any system, including humans.

The initial appointment of the group leader is for 5 years with the possibility of extension (2 x 2 years) after international review. For more general information. The start date is envisioned for fall 2022.

The first day will be designed to meet members of the institute in a more informal setting; the second day will feature the selection symposium. The plan is to hold the symposium in person, but may be held virtually if conditions of the pandemic are unfavorable.
