Postdoctoral Position | Fluid Robotics & Biophysics
Stellenangebot vom 24.05.2021
The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, Germany, is an international research institute focused on cell and developmental biology. Currently about 500 employees are working at the institute, where half are from abroad with 53 nations represented. MPI-CBG has twice been awarded the title “Best Place to Work” (Academia and postdocs) by the journal “The Scientist”.
We are offering a Postdoctoral Position in Fluid Robotics & Biophysics.
Wouldn’t it be cool if we could control the physics of organism development? The Kreysing lab recently succeeded in optically inducing hydrodynamic flows within cells and developing embryos (FLUCS: Mittasch et al, Nature Cell Biology 20, 2018, Mittasch et al, J Cell Biol, 2020, Nat Phys, in press).
As a next step, we plan to refine this technique to gain full tactile control of micron scale motion, for which we need your help. Together, we will leverage FLUCS for the active micro-rheology of phase-separated compartments, as well as precision micro-manipulations of organelles within cells and early embryos. By this approach we aim to reveal structure-function relationships underlying cellular organization and to gain control of central developmental programs. Long term aims include enhanced clinical diagnostics and early development assistance.
We seek an outstanding postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in biophysics, quantitative biology, biotechnology, robotics or related disciplines. Candidates should be familiar with at least several of the following techniques:
Light Microscopy, optics (i.e. optical tweezers), cell culture, C. elegans research, programming (Python, Matlab, Keras and/or Labview), machine learning, and quantitative data analysis. Equally important are outstanding creativity and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary science. Excellent English communication skills (spoken and in writing) are required.
This full-time position is available immediately. Salary and social benefits will be in accordance with the regulations of the German TVöD Bund (salary agreement for public service employees). The contract will be limited initially to 2 years with the possibility of extension. For informal inquiries, please contact Dr. Moritz Kreysing via email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. There is no deadline.
The Max Planck Society strives for gender and diversity equality. We welcome applications from all backgrounds.
Applications should include
- a cover letter indicating the motivation to apply for this position,
- a CV including a publication list,
- a concise description of previous research accomplishments (favorably <1 page), and
- contact details of at least 2 approachable academic referees
and should be submitted via our online application system stating Code 2021-PostDoc-FluidRobotics-2290 in your application letter.
