The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) in Garching, Germany, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in the framework of its development program for young scientists for the division Plasma Edge and Wall (E2M).
Closely connected to our tokamak experiment ASDEX Upgrade you will work in the area of experimental plasma physics and fusion energy research. The focus lies on the characterisation and analysis of plasma processes in the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak, with the goal of reaching a deeper understanding of the physical processes that determine the performance of the plasma or its interaction with the first wall. Depending on your skills, your work will focus especially on the development and operation of plasma diagnostics (spectroscopy, Langmuir probes, or Thomson scattering), on the data analysis of the measurements obtained from these diagnostics, and their connection to theoretical models.
We seek a highly motivated scientist with a strong interest in participating in fusion energy research. German skills are not a prerequisite for the position, but good command of English is necessary. Applicants must hold a PhD degree in physics.

The employment is limited to 2 years. An interesting and versatile research position is offered, with a salary according to public service remuneration group 13 TVöD.
