The Computational Methods in Systems and Control Theory (CSC) group at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg is inviting applications for the position of a Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) in Machine Learning for Dynamical Systems.

Job description:

The Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, Magdeburg, Germany, seeks a postdoctoral researcher to carry out innovative research in the area of learning nonlinear dynamical systems using deep learning. Data-driven modeling of nonlinear dynamical systems is challenging and often requires several assumptions and prior knowledge by the practitioners. This project aims to construct models for nonlinear dynamical systems by innovative synergies between machine/deep learning and system identification tools. Combing prior knowledge of dynamical systems is essential to improve the efficiency of deep learning models. An ideal candidate is expected to investigate suitable architectures for deep learning models, leading to physics-informed deep learning models.

December 31, 2022, with the possibility of an extension of 1-2 years

Expected requirements:

The candidate is expected to fullfil the following requirements:

  • Ph.D. degree or equivalent (obtained or to be available soon) in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, Computational Science and Engineering
  • Experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning
  • Good understanding of dynamical systems and time-series modeling
  • Excellent programming proficiency in Python and hands-on experience in using deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, such as written and oral communication skills in English
  • Highly motivated and ambitious

Payment:

The successful candidate receives a standard working contract with payment and benefits in accordance with a public collective agreement (TVöD). Your salary is based on TVöD E13.
