The Ernst Strüngmann Institute (ESI) in Frankfurt, Germany, is an independent privately funded non-profit research institute that closely cooperates with the Max Planck Society. ESI was founded in 2008 with the mission to conduct excellent fundamental brain research. The IT department at ESI closely collaborates with resident research groups developing custom-tailored software applications for experimental data acquisition and analysis. Data processing is performed on-premises using a local high-performance computing (HPC) cluster comprising multiple hardware architectures (x86, IBM Power, GPU). To enhance its team the ESI IT department is looking for a Software Developer (m/f/d).

Your responsibilities:

  • Development of scientific software applications in Python
  • Administration of on-premise software development platforms (GitLab, SVN, Perforce)
  • Platform-specific code modifications and patch development for existing open-source analysis software
  • HPC cluster operation support

Your profile:

  • Profound experience with application development in Python
  • Experience with application development in C/C++
  • Knowledge of and interest in common DevOps techniques (git and CI/CD pipelines)
  • Strong interest and experience in the Linux and open-source ecosystem

Your add ons:

  • Know-how of HPC cluster queuing systems (SLURM)
  • Experience with Matlab/Octave and the Fieldtrip toolbox
