The Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research (MPIPZ) in Cologne invites applications for a Technical Assistant Position (m/f/d).
Starting date: The position is available from October 1, 2020
Duration: 9 months, with possibility for extension
A laboratory manager/technician position is available in the Hancock Laboratory as part of research projects to reconstruct the adaptive history of Arabidopsis thaliana populations. Research in the lab is aimed at understanding the genetic basis and evolutionary history of complex traits, with a particular focus on adaptive evolution.
The lab manager will be responsible for ordering, managing and maintaining biological resources (seed stocks), extracting DNA, preparing samples for genome sequencing, PCR (genotyping and cloning), assisting in the production of recombinant populations, and supporting large-scale phenotyping projects and functional analyses with CRISPR/Cas9.
A Masters degree in biology, Bachelor degree or certified BTAs will also be considered. The ideal candidate has molecular biology experience and experience working with plants, is highly organized and detail-oriented.
The working language of the laboratory is English and strong English language skills are essential. The initial contract will be for 9 months with the possibility of extension.
The salary will be according to the German TVöD.
