Senior Purchasing Manager (f/m)

The primary function of Purchasing is to economically and efficiently purchase goods and services commensurate with AbbVie policies and objectives, while adhering to a strict standard of business ethics and integrity. Provide maximum value to the corporation through coordinated site and country purchasing for direct and indirect goods / services within Germany.  In alignment with Category Strategy, support and implement across sites / functions within country and set direction locally for smaller spend categories and local suppliers.
Provide coordination for like purchases across all divisions and sites, ensuring bundling of spend to optimize buying leverage for the company.  Maximum value to the corporation through the coordination of multiple purchasing organizations in accordance with corporate policies and business objectives.
Ability to lead multi-culturally teams, and to encourage open exchange of ideas and knowledge, to leverage cross-functional alignment. 
Proactive approach which is relationship orientated, customer focused, team based, highly analytical, creative, dynamic (must stay abreast of global economics), and without error in its execution.  
Oversee annual expenditure of approximately $ 200 Mio. Magnitude of purchases often places incumbent in lead negotiation position to secure contracts over $ 200 Mio. to meet specific needs of the corporation and its divisions.
Manage supplier diversity programme and compliance within Germany

Your Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage Site Purchasing Team in Germany.  Ability to translate category strategies into implementable plans, communicate clearly and allocate responsibilities to cross-functional teams.  
  • Drive savings to the organization as defined in KPIs and performance measures in various functions (PPV, GMI and SG&A)
  • Oversee and coordinate local purchasing activities to ensure local compliance with global Purchasing Policies and Procedures. 
  • Responsible for sourcing, bidding, negotiating, contracting, and purchasing goods and services in alignment with agreed category strategies.  Execute the competitive bidding process in accordance with the Organization's Purchasing Policy
  • Ensure the execution of standards, controls, policies, procedures and performance metrics to effectively and efficiently manage the acquisition and reporting of indirect third-party spend across the region. 
  • Aligning country, regional and global opportunities to increase buying leverage for the company in line with category strategies.
  • Align skills of team to ensure effective business support in the respective site
  • Monthly reporting of site activities, projects, savings etc.  Achieve, track and report annual planned savings target in Germany.
  • Develop and maintain a supply base that ensures the best value for quality, delivery, pricing, service, etc.  Includes over-sight of all new vendor requests and drive preferred supplier networks to maximise value-for-money.  
  • Proactive management of local suppliers including, anticipation, resolution, communication and supplier performance analysis using established metrics
  • Knowledge of external guidelines (eg FDA, Customs, TSCA, USDA, PhRMA, etc) to ensure compliance 
  • Identify, develop and implement standardized buying practices to ensure adequacy of supply chain.  Educate requisitioners on the same.
  • Seek innovative solutions for the procurement process, develop action plans and participate in cross-functional, cross-divisional teams
  • Manage stakeholders across functions and sites focusing on Site Leadership and Regional / Functional Leader roles; interface with Functional VPs.  Meet regularly with internal customers and support functions to ensure customer satisfaction and continuous improvement, including monthly / regular reporting and updates
  • Effectively implement Payment Matrix within Germany

Your Profile:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related discipline or 6 years of equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in a purchasing manager role, preferably in Pharmaceutical industry
  • CPM certification desired (or equivalent)
  • Experience of SAP (SRM, ECC), e-Sourcing & contract management tools preferred
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills 
  • Strong written and verbal skills enabling effective communication with all levels of management
  • Strong negotiation, contracting and communication skills, inc strong written and oral English language skills
  • Knowledge of purchasing policy 
  • Individual must be self-motivated with great follow-up skills and be able to work independently
  • Strong organizational skills required to coordinate and manage multiple cross divisional work process and projects
  • Ability to attract, develop and retain talent.  Ability to recognize, reward, and promote people based on their performance, achievement of results and development of competencies
  • Strong time management and planning skills required to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously while adapting to changes in business requirements in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in people leadership, managing cross-functional teams
