Post-doctoral Scientist (f/m)

Stellenangebot vom 16.02.2017

The Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine has an opening for a Post-doctoral Scientist (f/m) in the Molecular Neurogenetics Laboratory of Dr. Erik Storkebaum.

Our research

We combine Drosophila and mouse genetics to study the molecular pathogenesis of the neurodegenerative disorders Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy (CMT) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The project that is offered will focus on the molecular mechanisms underlying CMT associated with mutations in tRNA synthetases, and is based on our recent publications in this field.

Using Drosophila models for these diseases, we have identified a detailed molecular mechanism underlying the protein translation defect in motor and sensory neurons in vivo (unpublished). The proposed project involves the validation of this mechanism in mouse models, the most disease-relevant mammalian models currently available for these genetic disorders. If desired, the successful applicant could combine these studies with Drosophila genetic approaches. On the longer run, the development of an independent project that can be transferred to a future position is possible.

A broad spectrum of methods will be applied, all of which are well established in our lab, including mouse genetics, the recently developed FUNCAT technique, immunohistochemistry, several imaging techniques, molecular biology, protein biochemistry, and possibly also Drosophila genetics.

For further information please visit the Storkebaum lab website.

Your profile

We are looking for a highly motivated and team-oriented postdoc with a solid publication record and interest in a scientific career. Previous experience with mouse genetics is expected, experience with Drosophila genetics is a plus but not required. Due to the international environment, good knowledge of the English language is necessary.

Our offer

We offer the challenging, dynamic, international and multidisciplinary environment of the Max Planck Institute, with state of the art facilities for mouse and Drosophila genetics, histology, light and electron microscopy, next-generation sequencing, cell sorting and proteomics. For people without German language skills, help with German administration, apartment hunting, etc. will be provided. The salary and working conditions will be according to the regulations of the Max Planck Society.

The Max Planck society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.

Your application

Please send your application (with the position-code 02-2017), including motivation letter (up to one page), CV and the names of 2 referees via e-mail to Applications are invited till March 12th 2017, starting date will be as soon as possible.
