The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (MPIB) in Martinsried near Munich is one of the world’s leading international research institutions in the fields of biochemistry, cell and structural biology, and biomedical research. With around 27 scientific departments and research groups and about 750 employees, the MPIB is one of the largest institutes of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science.

For the administrative project management of over 30 third-party funded research projects with a financial volume of more than 40 million euros, we are seeking in the Grants Office full- or part-time (minimum 29 hours/week) support for the post-award management of third-party funded projects as a Scientific Coordinator (m/f/d).

Your tasks

  • Independent project management and development of sustainable strategies for the Grants Office
  • Preparation, review, and processing of contracts and grant agreements in collaboration with researchers, the third-party funding department, and external partners
  • Coordination and drafting of scientific and financial reports as well as deliverables (e.g., Data Management Plan, Outreach Plan), including deadline monitoring
  • Management and implementation of project changes (e.g., amendments, project extensions, transfers)
  • Review and support in implementing administrative requirements from funding agencies
  • Maintenance and updating of the Grants Office homepage and internal overviews of third-party funded projects
  • Organization and support of events (e.g. information seminars for researchers)
  • Supporting the team as needed with all other services provided by the Grants Office
  • Substitution for the Head of the Grants Office during absences

Your profile

We are looking for a responsible, highly organized, and service-oriented individual (m/f/d) who can quickly familiarize themselves with a variety of topics and enjoys advancing collaborative work and decision-making processes to create ideal conditions for excellent research every day.

As a successful candidate (m/f/d), you will have the following:

  • A completed university degree (preferably in natural sciences) or a comparable qualification with at least 1–2 years of relevant professional experience
  • Ideally, experience in managing third-party funded projects in a scientific institution
  • A very high degree of independence, accuracy, and reliability
  • A sense of responsibility and a solution-oriented approach
  • The ability to work efficiently, both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills in personal, virtual, and written interactions
  • Very good German and English skills, both written and spoken
  • Confident use of Microsoft Office and a willingness to familiarize yourself with digital tools
  • Intercultural competency
