The Max Planck Institute for Brain Research (MPI for Brain Research) in Frankfurt/Main is a leading research institution in the field of basic biological and medical research, with a focus on understanding the functions of the brain’s circuits. Our institute has approx. 220 employees in three research departments and several research groups, as well as service units.
Together with the MPI of Biophysics we operate a joint mass spectrometry lab to develop MSbased methods for projects at both institutes. For this lab, we look for a Technical Assistant (m/f/d) or Engineer (m/f/d) for Proteomics and LC-MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Biophysics.
This full-time position is on an initial, fixed-term contract for two years, with the possibility of extension to a permanent contract.
Your responsibilities
- Support and maintenance of LC-MS instruments, performance monitoring (calibration, tuning, QC measurements), instrument trouble shooting and cleaning
- Routine sample measurements and data analyses (e.g. protein identification and quantification, determination of Mw)
- Acquisition, evaluation and analysis of LC-MS data in scientific projects (shotgun proteomics, PTM/Phosphoproteomics, low-input proteomics, metabolomics)
- Development of sample preparation and LC-MS methods for scientific projects
Your profile
- Completed education as a technical assistant (m/f/d) (CTA/BTA), ideally with work experience, or completed university education as Engineer (m/f/d) or Master/Diploma in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics or a similar subject
- Experience using mass spectrometers and HPLC systems (ideally Thermo and Bruker)
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English for evaluation and presentation of scientific data and for exchange with our international colleagues
- Ability to work accurately and independently
- Team-oriented personality with excellent communication skills
The following additional qualifications are advantageous:
- Experience using DIA and DDA methods, search engines and statistics
- Bioinformatics skills and coding (e.g. R and Python)
- Experience in working in a mass spectrometry facility
- Knowledge of liquid handling automation
- Experience in Lipidomics and Crosslinking-MS
